As a native of Boone, North Carolina and a graduate of Appalachian State University, he enjoys outdoor activities like mountain biking, hiking, skiing and camping. He also excels in tour cycling. He is very active in his church. He volunteers for the Boy Scouts and Special Olympics. He won the National Association of Realtors Good Neighbor Award in 2007 for his volunteering endeavors commended by the real estate community. He was awarded the Scoutmaster of the Year for 2009. He has received both the top savings award and the client service award from his company.
 
Randall has been married for 24 years and has two children: A daughter in college and a son at Asheville High. His wife works at Mission Hospital. They have hosted many international exchange students over the years. They frequently go on international mission trips with their church.
